For the better part of four years, the 400 miles between Rochester, Minnesota and Columbia, Missouri symbolized balance and reflection for Greentop's Isaac Jahns. The two cities (Jahns's hometown and college town, respectively) are the two largest cities along the path of U.S. Highway 63, snaking through farmland and small towns along the way. Greentop, Missouri is one such town, linking this Minnesotan to northern Missouri forever and giving him routine seven-hour meditation sessions to create his own sound. Greentop began in 2017 as a solo project and evolved greatly over two years, moving from sparse acoustic music to a powerful indie rock five-piece. The band’s first LP, 2018’s “Dumb Luck,” helped Greentop grow past the stages of southeast Minnesota and play across mid-America. 2024’s “Meadowlark” marked a post-pandemic revival and a move to Minneapolis, symbolizing the natural maturation of the bandmates and the sound they created. 2025’s “HAVING FUN” EP holds the first music not written by the elder Jahns, instead deferring to younger brother Lucas and new bassist Tony Zeller. Their goal? Make danceable music.
